  13. To upgrade your ULP system, read the following brief instructions, in order,
  14. from the version you are running to the current version.  If you have skipped a
  15. version that requires an UPDATE.EXE conversion utility, they are available on
  16. my BBS in the ULP Support conferences (2 and 3).

  18. I strongly suggest you read through the HISTORY.TXT as well, which provides
  19. detailed information on the changes and bugs fixed over the course of ULP's
  20. development.

  22. In general, to install new versions, start by copying the new executables and
  23. documentation over your old files.  Take care to not overwrite your ULP
  24. configuration files with the samples!

  27. Version 1.07b:

  29.     No UPDATE.EXE is included in this archive, since there were no changes to
  30.     the configuration file formats.  No configuration file adjustments are
  31.     necessary.

  44.     In ULPSM, the database buffer size parameter has been removed, as the
  45.     buffer handling within ULP has been improved.  Due to the change, you must
  46.     set your disk buffer size in menu B between 4K and 16K, and re-save your
  47.     configuration file to disk.  I would suggest setting it to 8K, or if you
  48.     have the memory, try 16K.

  50. Version 1.06:

  52.     UPDATE.EXE version 1.06 (available separately as UPDT106.ZIP on my BBS) is
  53.     required to update your configuration file from the version 1.02 format. No
  54.     configuration file adjustments are necessary.

  59.     the configuration file formats.  No configuration file adjustments are

  67.     If your default archiving format was the first archiver in page 1 of the
  68.     "archivers" menu in ULPSM.EXE, ULP.EXE could insert the wrong new file size
  69.     in the description.  You can correct your directory listing file sizes
  70.     using the following PCBFILER command:

  72.         PCBFILER /PROCESS:xx:nn
  73.  
  74.     Where 'xx' is the conference number and 'nn' is the directory number.

  81.     The swap device for swapping is now configurable in the "general options"
  82.     menu).  Options for swapping are now: (N)one, (E)MS, (X)MS, (D)isk and
  83.     (A)uto.  (A)uto is equivalent to the old (Y)es selection and probably the

  86.     The length of the @-variable names that ULP utilizes were shortened.  You
  87.     must go through your configuration file and update all @-variables (in the
  88.     archivers, file checkers, GIF file checkers and description processing
  89.     menus) according to the following translation:

  97.     In order to change some hidden @FILE@ variables, ZDCS users must enter the
  98.     "duplication checking" menu in ULPSM, press 'F10' to save the corrected
  99.     data to memory and exit ULPSM, saving the configuration file to disk.

  101.     If you wish to use newest age checking instead of average age checking, it
  102.     is now configurable within the "age checking" menu in ULPSM.
  103.  
  104.     Due to a bug in ULPADS, it would be a good idea to use the distribution
  105.     database included in the ULP archive and add your own unique BBS ad files
  106.     back in.
